From time to time, I
read a lot of words of wisdom. At that time I read them, I felt
great and liked them very much. But later I forget. Now I think
it is better I list them here. It is easy to find and review
whenever I want. Maybe some visitors like them too.

December 27, 2004 Monday
{{Since December 20, 2004, I started to explore meditation ...
... Today I started to read a book with title " Science, Religion and the
meditative mind" by J Richard Wingerter. I can not understand this book very
well. But I think some ideas and words are good, especially those quotes
of J. Krishnamurti. }}
28:
"Meditation is the emptying of the mind of all the things that the mind has
put together. If you do that ... you will find that there is an extraordinary
space in the mind, and that space is freedom.
The tricks of the mind are not meditation. Meditation is the beginning of
self-knowledge, and without meditation, there is no self-knowledge."
--- by J. Krishnamurti.
{{ But what is self-knowledge?}}
29:
"It is only when the mind is totally still that there is a possibility of
the coming into being of that which is beyond the measure of the mind. But
organized religions merely condition the mind to a particular pattern of
thought.
To meditate is to purge the mind of its self-centered activity. And if you
have come this far in meditation, you must find there is silence, a total
emptiness. The mind ... is completely alone, and being alone, untouched,
it is innocent. Therefore here is a possibility for that which is timeless,
eternal, to come into being."
--- by J. Krishnamurti.
30:
" The way of religion is the disentanglement of the mind from the pattern
which is put together by the collective, by the past.
Without meditation there is no perfume to life, no beauty, no love."
--- by J. Krishnamurti.
31:
" Meditation is the purgation from the mind of all its accumulations; the
purgation of the power to gather, to identify, to become; the purgation of
self-growth, of self-fulfillment; meditation is the freeing of the mind from
memory, from time" ---by J. Krishnamurti.
{{ But is it possible to reach that kind of state? }}
32:
" The analysis, judgement-making, and evaluation associated with the exercise
of reason, and with or without faith joined to it, are of a limited, partially
functioning mind. Deepest understanding can not come from any such partially
functioning mind activity. Understanding in depth comes not from any profession
of faith in a merely mind-projected God supposedly at work in the world
and the events of history but rather comes out of choiceless and observerless
attention to what is, out of the understanding which comes of such
attention." --- By the author J Richard
Wingerter ( page 6)
33:
"Traditions and cultures are of the past since they relate to the recognized,
the experienced, the known, and not at all to the truly new, the unknown,
the living. To belong to a tradition is to live in a house of the dead even
when there a partially functioning mind projecting a future supposedly, but
not really, beyond the past. A so-called new and constructive mode of thinking
is not really new for all thinking is past-related, related to memory, the
known, the experienced, in a word to the old and the dead and not to the
real and the living, the eternally alive, that which is dynamic and ever-changing
rather than inert and lifeless".
"... ... only a truly meditative mind is fully open to the reality"
( page 10)
"... ... Cultures and religions never were and never are open to the really
new" ( page 18)
" One can not arrive at living truth, but living truth can come to a mind
that is meditative, silently receptive" ( page 18)
" Living truth is not at all related to time and time-related cultures. It
has nothing of the relative, the conditioned about it, and it can not be
known in any ordinary sense of knowing. It is ahistorical and eternal, not
at all time and history related. Indeed the mind can be aware of it only
when time and history cease, are ended, but at some future moment in time,
but now, on the instant, in choiceless and overserverless attention to what
is." ( page 29)

Doubt sees the obstacles, Faith sees the way.
Doubt sees the darkest night, Faith sees the day.
Doubt dreads to take a step, Faith soars on high.
Doubt questions "who believes?" faith answers, "I". ---(

18. One small door is closed, and a big door is open. ---(
by Shuying)
{{ I was turned down by a lawyer because he thought it
is "extremely time consuming" to work for me, he is unwilling to do for
me. I was upset. But later I turn to another legal service, I get all my
documents notarized within 15 minutes and it is free. If I had that "frustrated
lawyer" notarize for me, it would cost me about $ 200 dollars and take him
a few days, see, one small door is closed and a big door is open for me!
So next time when you are turned down for whatever reason, be happy
and be grateful. Today's story reminded me some words by one of my good
friends: " If we can not marry a bad and small guy, then marry a good
and great man". Cool? !}}

1. Happiness is a direction. not a destination. --
( From my small book "Do not wait")
2. Retreat to advance. Sometimes the most important
and urgent thing we can do is get away to a peaceful and quiet place.
-- ( From my small book "Do not wait")
3. Do all the good you can, in all the ways you can,
in all the places you can, at all times you can, to all people
you can, as long as you ever can. -- John Wesley
{{ What is "all the good"?
I guess sometimes "one good thing" is to accept things and
people around you in the way it is. If you can not, just pretend you
are watching a movie}}
4. Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know
what you are going to get. --movie: Forest Gump
{{ I like Forest Gump very
much, of course it is the movie, not that "silly" Forest. I like
Janet. But life seems not very fair to her.
5. Criticizing another's garden does not keep the weeds
out of your own. -- ( From my small book "Do not wait")
{{ People including me seems very
enjoy criticizing the others, find others' bad aspect, and then
think about it again and again, or maybe speak out or ...... I guess
it maybe just a good way for a stupid person to punish himself/herself
with others' mistakes}}
6. Your struggle may be lasting, but it is not everlasting.--
( From my small book "Do not wait")
{{ I think this is a great sentence,
yes, no one will struggle forever, so if you are having some bad
time. Think that it will not last forever}}
